Quaker Boy

Quaker Boy
Quaker Boy, Inc. started as a hobby in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Richard C. Kirby. A barber and beautician by trade, Richard (Dick) and Beverly had an extreme love of the outdoors. A demand for Dick Kirby’s call creations and business opportunity led them to start “Quaker Boy Game Calls”. The company is privately held with Mrs. Kirby being the principal owner. Beverly remains as the company’s chief operating officer today. The company name comes from Dick and Beverly’s hair shop, known while in existence, as Quaker Boy Barber Shop and Quaker Girl Beauty Shop. The name originated from the “Quaker” settlement of Orchard Park on Quaker Road in Orchard Park New York. The game call industry was in its infancy when the Kirby’s started. They were overwhelmed by the “giant” game call manufacturers of the time. Dick realized, in his words that, “the opportunity was there, and we went for it!” The business began with Dick and Beverly working hand in hand with one common goal, to provide today’s sportsman with the highest quality, most user-friendly and innovative equipment ever. Quaker Boy began with just a few employees, with each serving many job functions. Eventually, Dick and Beverly outgrew the many additions on their home to accommodate the growing business. The decision was made to build a 13,400 square foot facility on Webster Rd in Orchard Park, NY. Further growth required Quaker Boy, Inc. to start and run a full-time woodworking shop in Bradford, PA which encompasses another 13,000 square feet. In 2018, the Orchard Park facility was sold and Quaker Boy, Inc. moved its operations to Springville, NY into a facility owned by Chris and Michelle Kirby. Building turkey calls is what started Quaker Boy. This is the reason for the original name “Quaker Boy Turkey Calls.” Since then, we have added many other types of game calls and hunting accessories. The fast growing business incorporated in 1981 and we are known today as “Quaker Boy, Inc.” Surrounding themselves with men and women of integrity that shared the same passion for the outdoors, Dick and Beverly have applied unparallel innovation and quality to the game call market. There have been many innovations and improvements over the years. The Kirby’s love of the outdoors and their commitment to manufacturing the highest quality, easy to use, practical hunting products for today’s sportsman continues to be the driving force behind Quaker Boy, Inc. In 2020 Beverly Kirby decided to make the tough decision to sell the business to her son and current President Chris and his wife Michelle. Quaker Boy currently has 25 employees, many of which have been involved since the very beginning. Quaker Boy continues to be family owned and operated and carry the very proud label of, “MADE IN THE USA”.
