Distress Call, Grey Squirrel Bark, Grey Squirrel Bark & Squeal, Fox Squirrel Bark, Chatter/Alarm Call
Distress Call: Simply blow air into the open end of the call. Make sure you do not cover the small hole in the barrel. You should make a series of three to five long squeals two to three seconds, then 10 - 15 shorter squeals one second long or shorter.
GREY SQUIRREL BARK: Hold the call between your thumb and forefinger. Tap the bellow end of the call in this rhythm, Tap---Tap---Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap. Then, press the bellow all the way in and release it two times. This produces the bark and squeal characteristic of the grey squirrel.
FOX SQUIRREL BARK: Hold the call between your thumb and forefinger. Cup your remaining fingers around the end of the call. This gives the deeper tones of the fox squirrel, Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Tap-Taaap---Taaap-Taaap.
Chatter or Alarm Call: To make the chatter or alarm call of both grey and fox squirrels, simply hold the barrel end of the call between your thumb and forefinger and shake the call for three to five seconds. The call automatically produces the rhythm and tone of the chatter call.
